Sega Europe to sponser first annual Develop 'Industry Excellence Awards'
Wednesday, August 20th, 2003

SEGA® Europe Ltd, today announced its headline sponsorship of the first annual Develop 'Industry Excellence Awards' to be held at the Royal Garden Hotel, in Kensington, London on Wednesday, August 27, 2003. The awards, run by games industry trade magazine Develop, will celebrate the achievements of the European gaming community and provides an opportunity to showcase the best gaming in the region.

The award categories are designed to recognising the talent that creates games for a European marketw orth £6bn. These will include awards for the best use of technology, creativity and innovation, business development, best tools provider, best new development studio, best online development studio and best mobile development studio.

The ceremony will be a key highlight of London Games Week (August 25–31), following the Game Developers Conference Europe and is expected to attract up to 300 professionals from the gaming sector. SEGA will also use this opportunity to reinforce its European product acquisition strategy in order to strengthen its existing position as a standalone publisher.

Matthew Woodley, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe Ltd, commented, "The European development community deserves an award ceremony of this calibre and SEGA is delighted to be its headline sponsor. SEGA works with some of the finest studios in the world and this event will provide us an opportunity to highlight our commitment to expand our development efforts further into the European market."

London Games Week also consists of ECTS – the European Computer Games Trade Show and the Games Developers Conference Europe as well as the celebrated consumer-focused event PlayStation Experience, through August 28-31, at Earls Court.
