The Lord of the Rings is my favorite book, and of course I also love the movie. Thanks to Vivendi Universal Games, The Lord of the Rings will once more come to life and this time in the center of our living rooms on the Xbox video game console. The latest game is The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard.
The quest to destroy the "One Ring" will continue in the second installment of the The Lord of the Rings franchise. What was once a quest for a Fellowship of nine is now an epic struggle between the races of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs. Gamers will have the pleasure to control different characters in the game to battle the epic confrontation with evil.
Be aware that the game will completely follow the second Lord of the Rings movie which came out not too long ago. If you haven't seen it and don't wanna know, skip the next paragraph because that is what I will explain:
The game will begin with the death of Boromir. You will get to guide Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli from the shores of the River Anduin, to the Plains of Rohan, and into the battles at Helm's Deep. The story in The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard will then continue to where players control "Treebeard" and fight against Isengard. And of course, because it will pretty much go with the movie, the game will end with Gollum, Sam, and our hero Frodo as they go from the River Anduin to the Black Gate of Mordor.
The gameplay in The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard will alternate between the stories of the different characters in their groups just like the movie. Gameplay will alternate between archery with Boromir, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas - puzzle solving with Gollum (stealth included), and of course the insane monster fights with Treebeard. Players will switch between characters to show the most authentic presentation of the book and movie. The game will also feature a multiplayer mode. A "cooperative" multiplayer mode to be precise. You're friends will have the oppertunity to join in on the fun and action as you battle the dark Lord Sauron.
Microsoft's online service for the Xbox video game console, Xbox LIVE! will be a nice addition to the game. Those with a subscription of the service will get the pleasure of downloading new content including new chracters.
The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard looks to be a promising action/adventure title headed to the Xbox that you definitely won't want to miss. If you're a Lord of the Rings fan, this is for you. The game has not yet been rated and will come out for the Xbox during the holiday season of 2003.
