The Fast and the Furious was the first cinema presentation to depict the super-charged world of illegal street racing. The film grossed $206 million at the worldwide box-office. In addition, the movie's DVD release was best selling DVD in the U.S. for the first half of 2002. Thanks to Vivendi Universal, gamers will be able to get an interactive taste of the action when The Fast and the Furious racing game arrives on the Xbox video game console.
In the game, the streets of LA and Miami are the battlefield where gamers must prove themselves by taking on opponents on dangerous racing missions. In The Fast and the Furious, credibility is prize because the player's reputation will grow as you complete missions and build your ultimate race car.
The Xbox incarnation of The Fast and the Furious will incorporate both characters and cars from not just the original movie but also the recently released 2 Fast 2 Furious film. The game will fully recreate the The Fast and the Furious world with fully licensed vehicles on drag, street and closed circuit courses. Gamers will undertake more than 80 different missions that will enable them to increase their street racing credibility, earn cash, and further the game's story.
The game will feature over 20 licensed cars which can be totally customized through cosmetic and performance enhancements that feature true-to-life parts from the most popular brands that include AEM, GReddy, HKS, ICEMAN, Gude Performance, Motegi Racing, APC, Goodyear, Dunlop, Kaminari, Modern Image Signworks, Nitrous Express, Toyo, TSW, Volk, Veilside, FocusSport, Euro Sport, Wings West and A'PEX Integration. This includes upgrading suspensions, exhausts, engines, and more. The game will even let you install nitrous for a super 200HP+ boost. As far as customizing your car's look goes, you can add air dams, spoilers, undercarriage lights, and other parts to look the best of the best.
Gamers with a LIVE! kit and a broadband connection can really look forward to this title since the Japanese video game developer Genki will include online play in The Fast and the Furious thanks to Microsoft's Xbox LIVE! service. Though not many details have been revealed on how Xbox LIVE! will be incorporated in the game, we know it will allow peer-to-peer online racing. Hopefully, there will be downloadable tracks and cars too later after the game's release.
Graphicly, The Fast and the Furious is nothing worth bragging about, but it still looks good nevertheless. So far, it seems Genki hasn't used any of the Xbox's anti-aliasing capabilities. The game looks something you would expect on a PlayStation 2. On the upside, the game won't feature some crappy music in the background along with motor sounds like 98% of the racing games out on the market. Gamers will have the ability to listen to the latest hip-hop and rock tunes on amped-up bass-driving stereos.
Slated for release sometime in the first quarter of 2004, The Fast and the Furious looks to be very promising. The world of underground street racing will come alive through through the power of the Xbox, but it doesn't look like that as of now if you've taken a look at the screenshots. Video games based on movies usually aren't good, but hey, this is The Fast and the Furious we're talking about. Anyways, enjoy the screens!
