So you've been looking at the kill.switch ads on Xbox Central and been wondering what the fuss is all about, right? Well, either way, kill.switch is Namco's upcoming third person shooter which will introduce the unique new "blind-fire" element. From having played the beta build, kill.switch is different from anything you'd expect.

Though not much is known at this point about kill.switch's story, we know kill.switch like most other games is mission based. For those that have been living in a cave over the past 10-15 years, this means you need to accomplish different objectives. Locations vary from an oil rig in the middle of the sea to a bombed out Middle-Eastern town.

Namco is introducing the Offensive Cover System (OCS). This means that unlike other games, your character won't just run into a crowd of enemies and do some fancy dive as he starts firing and killing each and every one of them. The Offensive Cover System basically means you'll go around hiding behind objects as you fire so basically they take the bullets instead of you. This may be a barrel or a car or even just a stack of tires. Actually, you can even try to use a telephone pole as a shield against bullets or at least *try* that is.

The "blind-fire" element which we were thinking would be something just groundbreaking turned out to be nothing of the sort. Basically, your character drops to the ground, takes his gun and starts shooting in the air without really seeing where he's shooting. If you don't really understand what I'm saying, imagine this. Imagine yourself hiding behind a pile of tires and then just taking your gun and shooting out the side without even looking where your gun is aiming at. We'll admit the idea is new, but the way Namco has it executed just doesn't get us excited.

In a nutshell, the game is nothing to brag about from a visual standpoint. Namco has used a "war-like" color scheme in the game. Well basically, it seems as if you're in the desert the whole time. There aren't many colors. With that said, the game takes no advantage of the Xbox's special effects such as bump-mapping, per pixel shader, etc. However, it seemed to be moving at a lightning-fast 60FPS. The character models including enemies are excellent. The animation is also hands down some of the best I've seen in a video game. You'll notice enemies fly backwards and fall to the ground when shot and even limp as they sometimes get up and try to walk off the battlefield.

The one thing about the game that bugged me the most was the difficulty. In some parts of the game, it's easy. At other times, it's όber hard. We know they'll fix this by the time the game is fully completed...or at least we hope they do.

The controls in kill.switch are nothing but top notch. When you take the controls and then add the nice AI, it results in a pretty good game that you'll enjoy alot. Speaking of the AI, you'll really need to watch your back in kill.switch and be extra careful. For instance, while you're busy trying to take out that sniper a grenade flies out of no where or an enemy approaches from an unguarded side.

Unfortunately, kill.switch offers no multiplayer option for gamers looking to duke it out with their friends. I have to say that this will affect the game's replay value. The game will make no use of Xbox LIVE!, either. Hopefully Namco has something up its sleeve though no plans for Xbox LIVE! have been announced so far, and the game is coming out just later this month.

Overall, kill.switch is another game you need to keep your eye on this season. So far, the game is fun though it's not a graphical showcase like Halo. We'll have more on kill.switch as more information is released as we get closer to kill.switch's release date at the end of this month. Stay tuned!
