Genma Onimusha is a port from the PS2s Onimusha. While most ports tend to be bad this one is perfect. the story takes place in Japan. You control Samonosuke, a valiant warrior ready to protect his land from the evil Nobunaga and his minions. Nobunaga loses this grand battle but somehow a few years later he is resurrected. A few years later Samonosuke receives a letter from Princess Yuki telling him to come to the castle. Samonosuke arrives late and the game begins.
Monsters come plenty in Genma Onimusha. There is a little doll known as Ayame. This little doll is mean. I won't spoil it for anyone but just be ready. To me this little doll is harder than the bosses, ok no more on the doll. Once you start playing the game you will notice that it resembles Resident Evil alot. You have to kill demons and absorb their souls into your gaunlet. One of the new things added is the "Rope Pulling system". Basically when you hit an enemy or a enemy hits you a GreenSoul comes out. You go into a "tug of war" with a demon to absorb it. If a demon sucks in a soul they will become stronger and harder to kill. After you suck in 5 green souls you can unleash the Ogre Power. This will give you invulnerability and regain your health for a few seconds. Besides the green souls there are also Red,Yellow and Blue souls.
Red souls power up your sword, Yellow souls give you health back and blue souls recharge your magic up. Aside from killing demons you must also solve puzzles. While some of the puzzles are hard most aren't to difficult. After playing with Samanosuke for a while you will play as a female ninja known as Kaede. This is where the game becomes a button masher. You don't play with her much but she has a few parts where you take over as her. She doesn't do much except kill demons and do a few puzzles. While she has a little role in the game she has an awesome move that flips over the enemy, kicks them in the knee, and kills them instantly. Very good looking and stylish also.
The Xbox version of Onimusha comes with extra goodies also. Besides the green souls it supports Dolby 5.1 surround sound. It also comes with a few new enemies and extra sections which weren't accessible in the PS2 version. The bad thing about Genma Onimusha are the quirky controls. After a few plays you will get used to them though so it's not really a biggie. Also the camera is pretty bad at times.
Overall Genma Onimusha is a very good port from it's PS2 counterpart. While camera issues are still present CapCom still did a very good job in porting this over to Xbox.
