Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars is a fast paced racing game. It is based way in the passed. You pick your team, a driver and a defender/attacker, then saddle your horse up and race again other teams of two. This game is quite good; however the controls make and break the game. The game makes you control not only the driver of the chariot, but the attacker/defender as well. This is one of the only games where you have to use all of the buttons on the controller. The control scheme really ruins it if you ask me.
In co-op mode there is a lot of fun involved in it as you can have one person driving and one attack/defending. This can work out to be a lot of fun, especially when you start to alternate positions. Circus Maximus is quite a good game in co-op mode, but even better is the multiplayer mode. In it you can play either 1 vs. 1, 1 vs. 1 vs. 1 (3 player), 1 vs. 1 vs. 1 vs. 1 (4 player), or 2 vs. 2 (4 player). So with that you can battle it out in an every man for himself or make some teams up and take the tracks on that way.
The graphics in Circus Maximus are not the best, but they are quite good for this type of game. There are many obstacles in the game, for example, boulders, and many other things. Tactics can also come into play. Choosing the right chariot, rider etc. Also taking certain corners can also help, and picking up the power ups can help you out a lot.
The replay value is only good in multiplayer. It can get quite boring in single player. Single player is good, until you play about 5 races, then the fun/replay starts to go down.
In conclusion, Circus Maximus is a fun game, however it isn't the best. If you enjoy the past and like racing, go out and give it a go. You might start to like it. Overall though, I'd you should just rent this one first. I really doubt anyone will come too really like Circus Maximus.
