Enter The Matrix Review

Enter The Matrix

Game Info
Simply one of the best games ever created, Enter The Matrix has set a new industry standard in film based video games. The directors of “The Matrix Reloaded” Andy and Larry Wachowski have designed a game that flawlessly coincides with the entire Matrix universe. One of the most incredible new developments is the fact that the video game itself contains unique movie footage incorporating voice acting and motion capturing from twenty-five actors seen in “Reloaded”. The game itself contains an exclusive portion of the storyline that can only be seen through the gameplay.

That being said, lets get directly into the gameplay. Before you start the game, you’re given an option to play as Ghost or Niobe. If you’ve ever played Max Payne, you'll initially get the feeling this game is quite similar. The beloved “Bullet Time” ability that was featured in Max Payne can be seen here too. Renamed “Focus”, the focus ability allows you not only to slow down the actual game, but the environment moves slower than your bullets giving you an advantage. Using focus during hand to hand combat will also allow you to do mesmerizing martial arts moves, jump kicking off walls, increased jumping abilities, flipping while shooting, and fighting multiple enemies with intense combination moves.

Hand to hand combat alone sets this game apart from the rest in its category. There are three attack buttons, and by using different combinations of the three you can do several amazing combos to eliminate the enemies. There’s also an immense selection of weaponry to use. Equipping your character with pistols, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and grenades will help while doing battle with large groups of enemies or strong vehicles. There are sections of the game where you have to use vehicles to escape from an area or chase someone down. Several first and third person games fail to offer functioning vehicles and levels with vehicles usually take away from the overall game play. This however is not the case in ETM. It’s clear a good amount of time was spent making sure the physics of the vehicles work well, and these high speed getaways add to the game keeping the game progress fresh and exciting.

There’s not much to say about the graphics. They are right on key. There were no shortcuts taken and no serious flaws. The engine is simply put just clean. The environments work well, and the levels themselves are very interactive whether you’re climbing over a fence, jumping through glass, or climbing on desks and shelves to gain elevation. This goes for the sound as well, it suits the game well.

If you’re a fan of “The Matrix”, “The Matrix Reloaded”, and “The Animatrix”, you will definitely want to get this game to fill in serious portions of the story. If you like action games and enjoyed previous 3rd person games such as “Max Payne” or “Spiderman”, this game is also a must. Even if you don’t fit into those two categories, this game is a MUST. it is simply one of the best games that has ever been created. The replay value is deacently high as well. after you beat it with one character, you can go back and use the other. There are also numerous saving points throughout the game which will allow you to go back when you’re done and replay your favorite parts of the games as many times as you like. What else can I say? Enter the matrix has definitely raised the bar.
