Capcom vs. SNK 2 is a very solid fighting game, with or without Xbox Live, because there are tons of unlock able features, a wide range of difficulty, and tons of moves to learn with all the different characters available.
The gameplay in Capcom vs. SNK 2 is very nice; the game contains over 44 characters from the companies of Capcom and SNK such as Blanca, Bison, Sagat, and all your other favorite classic characters made by them. You can choose your own grooves to play. The different grooves are C, A, P, S, N, K. The grooves all do different things such as C groove having a three level combo where you will gain a little bit of points toward doing a super combo, or K groove, where you will gain points doing a super combo when you get hit, and you will have "rage time" where your damage will be double.
The Selectable modes are "Arcade", "Vs.", "Survival" and "Network Play". There are also other modes of gameplay, "Free Ratio System", "3 on 3", "Single Match", "Vs.", and "Survival". In "Free Ratio System", you are given the choice of choosing up to three characters, where you will divide a total of four ratio points, meaning when choosing 1 player, all four ratio points going toward him, 2 players, three can go to one, while the other has one ratio point, or they can both have two ratio points. The ratios determine how much damage your player can do in combat. You will play a set number of matches until you reach the boss, which determines what groove you use. "3 on 3" is another combat mode where you choose three characters to match up against three other characters that your opponent chooses. "Single Match" is where you choose one single character and play against the computer to see how many consecutive matches you can win. "Vs." mode is where you play against someone on your Xbox, you can choose up to three players on each team. "Survival" mode is where you with one character, try to defeat all the characters available in the game with one life.
There is a bar atop the screen called the "GPS meter" and it determines how many points you have earned throughout the match, Combos, Super combos, and Perfect Matches all give you a various amount of points. "Network Play" is playing online Via the Xbox Live. This is a first for fighting games, & I highly recommend it.
Capcom vs. SNK 2 was originally released on the Dreamcast in 2001, and the graphics have not changed at all since then. This game is no graphical masterpiece. It doesnt push the hardware in any way, shape, or form. We have the same 2D graphics weve seen over the years. Capcom really needs to make a 3D version of their fighting games because this is getting boring. Dont get me wrong, I love this game, but the graphics can sure use an improvemement.
This is really nothing to say about the sound. I will say though its not very good. In the background, youll hear the same techno music everytime, but it gets boring after a bit. There is a lacking variety of sound besides the occasional scream of the move by the character as he or she performs a different move.
The gameplay on Xbox Live is much similar to what is offered in single player mode, except for the fact that you can play against people from around the world with voice abilities. You can choose the different kind of rules to use. Console rules have ability to choose between the selectable Arcade mode, and EO mode. Arcade mode is where you fight directly without using C-stick combos. There is also an EO rule, where you can only fight players who use C-stick combos. There is a various range of lag between the games, sometimes you get none, and sometimes you get a little, but the slightest bit of lag can disrupt the entire flow of the match.. You can invite friends; view your friends ranking, by simply selecting their name on your friends list. You can also see your weekly, monthly, and overall ranking. You can play people from Japan, United States, and Europe.
The Replay value is immense due to the fact you have forty-four characters, all with different moves to master. The addition of Xbox Live makes this game an addictive competition to be the best in the world, or just to play a casual game with a friend.
