Disneys Extreme Skate Adventure Review

Disneys Extreme Skate Adventure

Buy Game:
Game Info
When I first heard of this game, straight away I thought of Tony Hawk with Disney characters in and a new load of levels, characters, stories and music. That is exactly what this game is. Being made by Activision who also did the Tony Hawks series, it was certain to be of the same style. When the game is booted, we see the traditional intro video which in this case is a bit different.

You basically have all the standard game modes like free skate mission and multi-play. You must select a skater who in the case of Disney’s Skating is one of the Disney characters. As well as the animated characters, there are human child skaters who I think were put in this game through a skating competition. Unlike Tony Hawks, everything is a lot more cartoon like. This makes it appear as more of a platform game. However, it is well done graphically. There are many different textures used, and the characters are modeled very well. You can roam anywhere you want on the level and explore where you want. The game encourages you to do this like Tony Hawk to get all the special and hidden items. The graphics are nothing special for Xbox standards, but they still get the job done and are pleasing to the eye. The levels are designed very well to fit the particular scene. E.G. if I was playing as Simba, I would be in a jungle of some sort, or if I was Woody, I would be in Andy’s room. All in all, the graphics are pleasing to look at, and there is no noticeable slowdown from what I have played so far.

As for game play goes, Disney’s Extreme Skating is definitely very fun, just like the other Tony Hawk games. In my opinion, the game play and story in this game are better than that of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 and is therefore a lot more enjoyable to play. When you go around the level, you can do what you like there are no time limits. When you feel you want to do something, you walk up to one of the themed characters for your character and you are then given a task similar to the ones issued in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. However, on this it feels a lot more friendly and fun. The characters you interact with have voices and tell you what to do, and they resemble the original voices of the characters. Players of Tony Hawk will be right at home here.

The sound used is very impressive and suit’s the game very well. The sound support also features some very cool options. The in game sounds are fairly accurate, and there is nothing to really complain about. The voice acting is fairly close to that of the real ones, and they made a fairly decent attempt to recreate the original character voices. As for one of the most famous parts of the Tony Hawk games which they have brought to this game is the soundtrack they have tried to make the soundtrack appeal to everyone so there is a tad bit of everything in there, from little Bow Wow to Real Big Fish. The soundtrack is fairly good, but the game also features one of the greatest parts of the Xbox ‘Custom Soundtracks.’ This enables you to play any album you have sorted on you Xbox memory and play them while skating around. It’s a feature not used much on the Xbox, but is very nice to have. This way you can;t moan about the soundtrack of the game just play your own!

Overall this game is very enjoyable to play. When I first heard of it, I thought it was a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game for kids, but don’t be put off thinking it may be to ‘childish’ because it’s not. I recognize all of the old Disney characters and it brings back good memories seeing all the familiar characters. The game will keep you playing for some time. It retains some level of difficulty and is not one of those 5 minute games. There are a lot of things to unlock etc. If you are buying a game for children, this is perfect as it’s a more simplified Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater which may not appeal so much towards a younger audience. If you are buying it for older audience, don’t be put off. Try a rental before a purchase; I think you will be pleasantly surprised how fun the game actually is.
