Silent Hill 2: Inner Fears is the Xbox version of Silent Hill 2: Restless dreams on the Xbox. It features numerous new items, some slight modifications to the graphics and a new scenario, which is shorter than the main game. The graphics are very nice. Unfortunately you won't be able to take much of it in, as for 95% of the game you will be either surrounded by claustrophobic fog or darkness. The sound is excellent, with music and sound effects creating an eerie atmosphere. The game takes place in the town of Silent Hill, and involves James Sunderland looking for his wife, Mary. It is quite largely a puzzle game, although it does include quite a bit of combat. It is definately the scariest game on a next-gen console. Unlike resident evil, which tries to make you jump, Silent Hill 2 is a more physcological type of fear.
A few weapons are available in the game - 3 guns and quite a lot of melee weapons. Ammo is scarce, as well as first aid kits, meaning it is often better to run than confront an enemy. The game takes place over a quite large area, including around a dozen apartments and all of Silent Hill. During the game you will be attacked by a variety of monsters. The problem many people may find, is that the game is simply boring. It doesn't have a huge amount of fighting, and as I said before, is more a puzzle game with horror, and a bit of fighting thrown in. Some parts of the game may be confusing, especially when you are without a map.
The Xbox version of Silent Hill is clearly superior to the PS2 version, with better graphics and new features. If you liked the original Silent Hill, you may well like this. The extra features alone are not worth a purchase if you own the Playstation 2 version in my opinion. If you are expecting something similar to Resident Evil then you should probably stay away from this. If you are looking for a different experience from Resident Evil, you should probably rent it. You may not like it, and even if you do, you can probably complete it in a couple of days.
